10:30-11am Great Tips & Demo for growing Cuban Oregano with Thor Siegfried, Licensed Massage Therapist, a hobbyist gardener who grows much of his family’s produce.
11-12 Organic Vegetable Gardening with Jo Leyte-Vidal –A 46 year resident of Marion County & a retired high school Science teacher, Jo found that using plants & food as the basis for teaching Chemistry was very effective. Upon retirement, her love of organic vegetable gardening and planting for wildlife brought her to become a Master Gardener who can bring all this important information to our residents. Jo’s goal is to protect the gift of nature given to us. She has been a Master Gardener for 14 years.

1-1:15pm OUR CUSTOMERS 3 BEST TIPS for vegetable gardening. Come share the knowledge YOU’VE learned over the years of trial & error as well as formal study whether it’s preparing the soil, or the seed, companion planting, natural pest control, or pruning & harvesting. We hope to learn from at least 5 of our customer/growers.
1:30pm-2:15 Jim Parker, our customer – shares about Permaculture & Sustainables in the Vegetable Garden Jim grew up in the 50’s & 60’s in Long Island, New York on the south shore about 60 miles east of New York city. After serving in the Army, he worked as a batman harvesting hard clams on the Great South Bay. He was later employed as a Harbormaster (Peace Officer) by the local township to enforce the townships shellfish ordinances, boat control and the states environmental law. He always had a vegetable & flower garden during his adult life and loves fresh foods! Upon retirement he & his wife moved to Citrus County & live on 2 acres. He has always had an interest in gardening & more recently: permaculture and sustainables. He is researching these subjects and has some ideas old and new, that he thinks people will find interesting.
2:15- 3 pm DIY Dried with Denise Reich – Preserve what you grew with dehydration– Denise grew up in West Virginia where the soil is kinder, Was taught old school ways by both grandmothers, so she understand holistic & organic pest control & fertilizing. Green gardening is a must with edibles. She got into gardening much more once married and moved to Florida in 1989. She’s worked at Grumbles since 2010, and has enjoyed wearing many hats . Having creative outlets & talking with people is what she enjoys most, Recently Denise & her husband have become involved in our Dunnellon Community Garden and loves helping folks understand how produce is best grown as well as how we must do our best to be good stewards of our Mother Earth and protect and serve her well.
3-3:45 Pam Greenewald – On Organically Grown Roses – Owner of Angel Gardens, a mail order rose nursery which grows over 2000 varieties on their Own Roots in Alachua, Florida. It is one of only 4 commercial rose nurseries in the entire world that grows roses Organically. As a passionate collector of all classes of rose, Pamela specializes in the Antique, Old & Rare varieties that are in danger of disappearing. Pamela will give her own philosophy about the methods by which she finds it very easy to grow roses. She brings a fresh perspective to the table concerning why so many feel they are difficult to grow, busting many popular myths. Her passion & enthusiasm is contagious & her deep love for mother nature’s divine intelligence shines through her practical solutions to common problems. Her insights easily apply to growing vegetables & other plants. Pamela is dedicated to promoting & spreading the best organic methods for growing healthy vibrant roses and other plants while protecting ourselves & our environment from toxic chemicals and synthetic fertilizers.
Rose Garden Angels,inc., a non-profit 501c3 which works with Veterans suffering from PTSD, using horticulture therapy by growing roses for The Old Garden Rose Co., a wholesale wing of Angel Gardens. She is an active Board member of the Heritage Roses Group and a partner member of the Heritage Rose Foundation. She is also the Good Earth Chairwoman for the American Rose Society writing many articles on growing roses organically
