Not only do we consider the product when choosing merchandise for our store, we are interested in the story of the company. We like to partner with people who are working to make positive change in this world; to help better the situations of the poor, to recycle objects that can still be used to make beautiful pieces and have a new life instead of landing in a landfill and to craft unique and beautiful items you don’t see everywhere else. The mission of this small mother daughter company is to empower women and children in the battle against human trafficking. They strive to provide women with the tools they need to live hopeful, sustainable lives.
The ladies weave Kaisa grass into useful baskets that hold embossed terra cotta stones that can be heated and used as bread warmers. These make great housewarming gifts, especially when given with fresh baked rolls. They re-purpose silk saris into beautiful, functional baskets, great for organizing many items. They also up-cycle kanthas into patchwork laptop carriers and duffle bags with leather handles, all nicely lined with pockets for essentials. My favorites are the stamped leather journals with the tree of life and sun on the front.
