2nd Annual Garden Club Rally Day

November 7, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

The festivities begin at 9am with a Meet & Greet which will include registration, name tags, coupons, a few words from dignitaries, a morning snack and a bathroom break.

From 9:45 to 10:15 please peruse the activity boards on display of each garden club, talk with their officers and glean ideas to enhance your club and shop a little.

Marion County Master Gardeners will be on hand 10am – 3pm to answer questions, look at any sick leaves you bring in (in sealed ziplock bag please so as not to affect our plants) and share info about upcoming classes.

From 10:15 to 10:30 join our Garden Shop Manager, Terri Grier on a walking tour of our garden.

From 10:45 to 11:30 Sandra Marafino will share Why Birds Are Beneficial for Your Garden & How To Attract Them at Dunnellon Lions Club, just across the street from Grumbles House.

An ongoing Fairy Garden Workshop will be happening from 11am – 3 pm with Gale Pierce & Eileen Greene in the shady area behind Cedar St. Boutique.  Get ideas on how to build beautiful gardens from things you have around the house.  Pay a fee and build a garden to take home with merchandise from our store with help from “The Fairy Sisters”.

LUNCH BREAK   Sweetie’s Cafe is taking reservations for inside dining and will also have a refrigerated case on the porch with sandwich wraps you can enjoy picnic style on the porch and in the garden.  Her menu is attached.

Another lunch choice will be The River of Life Church serving hamburgers, cheeseburgers & pulled pork sandwiches with potato salad or chips, tea & lemonade in the Lions Club yard.  Once the class is over at 11:30, we will be setting up tables and you can go back inside to eat at the table & chairs or picnic in the yard of our shops.

They feed our local high school athletes during football & basketball season and we applaud that effort.  These proceeds can be used toward that ministry.

We will have live music in the garden during the lunch hour and hope you’ll enjoy the boutique, garden and Grumbles store when not busy eating, learning or socializing with other clubs.

From 1 to 1:45 pm, James Notestein of Notestein’s Nursery in Gainesville will talk about “The Future Isn’t What It Used To Be” and he’ll be encouraging you to make some “Gardening Resolutions” and to be sure to bring your sense of humus with you.

Bob Dumond, retired college horticulture professor and professional landscape designer will speak & answer your questions from 2:15 – 3pm on Landscape Planning.

We will have a couple drawings for prizes to signal the close of our formal schedule at 3:30 behind Cedar St. Boutique but you are welcome to stay and shop and visit until closing time at 5 pm.  If your group decides to stay the evening, we can make suggestions for dinner and a Singing River Tour that evening or the next morning.

Garden Club Officers – We invite you to bring a bulletin board showcasing the activities of your club and an easel, if you have one.  We can provide a card table for each club who reserves one that you can display flyers, books you find helpful for garden clubs or published by members of your club.  We hope this time of sharing projects & ideas will enhance your future programs and impact.  We hope officers will sit at your club’s table between 9:45 and 10:15 to talk with other club members.  If your club has name tags, feel free to wear them  (we got a complaint last year that ours were TOO sticky & left a residue on clothing).  Please let Nancy know if you need an easel or card table: email grumbleshouseantiquesandplants@gmail.com or text (352) 208-6789.
