Grumbles House has carried stained glass manufactured by the same company for about 15 years now. The constant proliferation of new designs allow s us to bring new and interesting table lamps, accent lamps, floor lamps and window panels to our customers in a variety of colors and styles. My best stained glass customers are those who are stained glass artists themselves. They tell me they couldn’t buy the glass and wouldn’t cut it out for the selling price of the finished product we carry. That’s because the company we buy from is the largest importer and wholesaler of Tiffany style lighting, and their quality of work shows in each piece. (more…)
Pilgrim Imports – Working Together For Good –
While at market in January, we were happy to stumble upon this company which started 28 years ago as a result of a college kid visiting Thailand and becoming interested in the people there. It has grown now to employ 400 people and to raise the standard of living of their village substantially. We are thrilled to be even a small part of such a positive change. (more…)
Any of you who know me, know I work a lot and don’t have much spare time in my yard. So I love plants like lespedeza that are independent and look beautiful without any fuss. This fast growing member of the legume family likes full sun, (can tolerate part shade but blooms best in full sun) and moist, well draining soil. Once established, very drought tolerant. You can expect it to bloom in May in September in our area.
| Lespedeza is a large deciduous, semi-woody shrub with an arching, fountain-like habit, composed of upright branches covered with small, three leaflet fine-textured blue-green leaves that turn golden-yellow in late fall before dropping for winter. Clusters of delicate reddish-purple (fuschia) 1-inch blooms adorn the upright clumping branches while in bloom. May grow 3 to 6 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide in one season. It’s cold hardy to 0 to -10 degrees (F). Prune it back after blooming. It will regrow in even larger fountain-like form. Perfect for mass plantings, a specimen, or border plant. |
Spirea is in bloom now (late March) at Grumbles House on the little bush by our light post out front that’s been there for many years. Creative brides can make a big impact with these pretty little flowers by incorporating them into headpieces and bouquets as well as centerpieces and chandelier embellishment. (more…)
Saturday, April 30 at 7 pm Dane Myers & Wholehearted Productions artist Tessa Marie will perform a concert to entertain area music lovers and support animal lovers as well. The Historic Train Depot of Dunnellon will be the site of the event which, if you haven’t been there for a show, is a treat just in itself!
Myers (our son) ran a contest on Facebook to see which organization residents wanted to see benefit from this concert and the #1 choice was Critter Crusaders of North Central Florida, a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of pets’ lives by creating more affordable ways to assist pet owners in supplying essential needs. For their philosophy & more info, visit their site at http://www.crittercrusadersofncf.org/. (more…)

Grumbles House welcomes 321 Pottery to Dunnellon. We have started with a few pieces from 3 of the 5 glazes offered and several of our favorite pieces including the microwave bacon cooker. Have you seen one before? It resembles a mug but has an opening at the bottom to allow the grease to pool and be poured into a jar to keep or dispose of. It holds 7 to 8 slices with an average cooking time of 1 minute per slice in the microwave. Just drape bacon over the center well with half inside and half outside. When cool, turn upside down in the dishwasher and it’s ready to wash. We hear so much about not heating plastics with our foods due to carcinogen effects that I think this alternative to frying on the stove top is a nice short cut. (more…)
We are happy to bring Heartwood Creations to Dunnellon! Folks have asked me for a few years now for quality jewelry boxes but I never found any, until now. Quality, made in America from some very interesting woods, with removable and rearrangeable inserts, these jewelry boxes are truly works of art. (more…)
While shopping the Made In America section at market recently we found this family owned company who has been making absorbent coasters from their family of sculptor’s art for the past 21 years. The clay they were using at the time they said, was from Minnesota. We started with the car coasters, selling pairs for $10 and will soon be bringing in full sized drink coasters. If we can order something special for you, let us know.
Here’s a few of the plants Terri is excited about for spring:
Creeping Raspberry is a low grower that stays 6-8″ tall and will easily spread 3 feet. The foliage is course and looks like ivy. Small white flowers in the spring followed by tiny fruit in the summer which is edible but very small. Perfect for landscapes with difficult sites such as hot, dry eroded slopes or ditches where soil moisture fluctuates from very wet to very dry. Creeping Raspberry thrives in these conditions. We have these in stock in 1 gallons for $7.
